The PTE Exam


The PTE exam stands for the Pearson Test of English and is a computer-based test that focuses on day-to-day English rather than high-level English language and tests a student on the basis of his /her ability to effectively understand the language spoken by people around them. The Eligibility Criteria for PTE

A candidate will need the following Eligibility Criteria requirements to appear for the PTE exam -

The candidate will have to be atleast 16 years of age. Moreover, all candidates below the age of 18 need to take a parental consent form signed by either parents or guardians before attempting the test

What is the PTE syllabus?




Candidates need to be familiar with the PTE Academic Syllabus before they appear for the exam. The PTE Academic can be broadly divided into Speaking & Writing and Reading & Listening sections. Take a look at the following list to get a better idea of each section

Speaking & Writing (77-93 minutes)

  • Personal introduction
  • Read aloud
  • Repeat sentence
  • Describe image
  • Re-tell lecture
  • Answer short question
  • Summarize written text
  • Essay
In this test, you will be tested on your speaking & writing skills.

In order to assess your speaking skills, you will be tested by your ability to produce spoken English in an academic environment.

In the writing section, you will be required to write responses in academic English using correct grammar and spelling. 

Reading (32-41 minutes)

  • Fill in the blanks
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Reorder photographs

In this section. your reading skills will be tested. It contains 15-20 independent questions & integrated skills items which are based on the combinations of items in a given test. Different response formats, including multiple-choice, reorder paragraphs & fill in the blanks are all designed to test your ability to read, write & listen to the information provided in English. But as PTE is an integrated skill test, one part of this section will also assess your writing skills.

Listening(45-57 minutes)
  • Summarize spoken texts
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Highlight the correct summary
  • Select missing word
  • Highlight incorrect words
  • Write from dictation
The Pearson Test Registration Process

To book the PTE Academic online you'll need a valid ID, generally a passport. you will be asked to show the ID on the exam day in order to get in the Pearson test centre.

Registration steps
  • Visit the official PTE Academic Website
  • Create your own Pearson Account along with personal details
  • After the registration process is done, you’ll get an email within 48 hours for Pearson with your Pearson test login details
  • Search for the nearest test center
  • Select a suitable time & date
  • After this, you will askes to proceed to the checkout button
  • Make the payment & finalize the booking.
The PTE Score

The PTE Academic is scored on a scale of 10-90, where 10 is the lowest with increments of 1 point. These scores determine the person’s ability to read, speak, understand verbal instructions & write the English language. The Pearson test score is presented in graphs to give a better understanding of the candidate’s core skills in the language as well as the improvement areas.

PTE Results

The results of the PTE scores are usually available online within 5 working days from the test date. Also, the PTE Academic results are issued online & can be assessed from your PTE student account. You will receive an email within 5 working days with instructions on accessing the results of your Pearson test online. Next, you’ll need to follow the instructions to log into your Pearson account.

You can share the Pearson test results with the colleges & universities you opted for through your Pearson account.
